It's been brought to my attention that I didn't make it clear enough that I had a good time on Saturday. So, to clarify, I had a good time on Saturday. While I may have some issues with Dave & Busters, I did have a good time.
I know I may have noted several things that were not perfect, but I did have a good time. I was trying to keep it somewhat short since I was typing it on my Palm Centro and may have focused to much on the negative.
It was a long overdue and much needed family day out, and I had fun.
Saturday we decided to have a family fun day. Victor and I got hair cuts first thing. Then he had his first soccer practice of the spring season. Finally we spent the afternoon at Dave & Buster's.
We took the light-rail to D&B's so we wouldn't have to park in the horrible parking lot they have. It's just too crampt and the paces are too small.
We got our power cards and hit the games. Some of the games were new but a lot of them are the same as the last time we went. That was several years ago. We also noticed that they had expanded out the back of the arcade with new games, a new bar area, and a bigger prize redemption area.
We also found that some of the games are not very well maintained. at least three of the Skee-Ball games were not working properly and we found a half a dozen games that took our credit then broke or rebooted, or just didn't work.
I got a manager and he gave us 100 credits on each card to make up for it. He tried to apologize for the broken games but really was just making excuses for being understaffed and having aging equipment. I think that they really need a few more people working in a Saturday and need to do a bit of a refresh and repair sweep on the games. We felt that D&B's has slipped down a bit from the level of quality they once had.
Despite the problems we had a good time. Also, dinner was as good a we'd had before even if the service was a bit slow. I hink that this is related to the whole understaffed thing.
On the way home we had a bit of a holdup on the train. The one before ours broke down at the next station and it took about 30 minutes for them to route our car around the Yale station.
Finally, when we got home I got out the Wii and played some Super Mario Galaxy. It took me about 45 minutes to beat Bowser and win the game. I still have 57 stars to get so I'm not really "done" with the game until I get the rest of the stars so I'll be woring on it a bit longer.
UPDATE: I've made a few corrections of typos I made typing this originally on my Palm Centro.
Well, I'm in!
I was elected as a Delegate to the Colorado Democratic Assembly, Saturday May 17 in Colorado Springs. This also includes being a Delegate to the Judicial District 18 Assembly, the evening of Friday May 16, also in Colorado Springs.
This means I could be choosing candidates for US Senate, District Attorney, State Senator, and State Representative. I will also get to help shape the state party's platform and elect delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
I'm also an Alternate to the Congressional District 6 Democratic Assembly, Saturday May 3 in Littleton. If I get seated as a delegate for this I would get to help choose a candidate for the US Congress, and vote for Presidential Electors and delegates to the Democratic National Convention.
I'm very excited about the whole process and am proud just to be a part of it.
As for the County Assembly and Convention. I was seated as a Delegate for Congressional District 6 for Mark Udall. I got to vote for candidates for Douglas County Commissioner as well as US Senate and US Congress.
I wasn't able to stay for the party platform part of the Assembly because I had to get home to lay my new computer room flooring. However, I did take a copy so I will be reading over all the proposed platform items.
I'm also looking to attend any local Democratic Party meetings to get more up to speed on everything that's going on in the party.
I'm about to head out to the convention. I'm only an alternate delegate so there's a good chance I won't even be involved. I 'm excited to be a part of this whole process, but I'm also nervous that I'm in over my head.
Well, I guess we'll just have to see how it goes. I caucused for Obama, now It's time to take the next step.
The renovation of our computer room is moving along but it's really draining us. It's been a little over two weeks since we noticed we had water damage in the computer room. It was caused by water splashed on the floor in the bathroom seeping under the wall into the computer room. It caused some mold under a bookshelf against that wall.
The carpet had to go so we took this as an opportunity to install the hard flooring I've wanted for a while. We picked out a nice Pergo laminate flooring at Home Depot and got most of the supplies two weeks ago. It's a nice light oak color and has a 30 year warranty. It was also a bargain because it's been discontinued and that took about $20 a case off the price. That saved us $280 there.
Since we were going to be replacing the flooring it was only logical that we paint also. We've thought about it for a while but hadn't committed to the hassle of emptying the room so we could paint. Well, then it's only logical to paint while he have everything out to do the flooring. Last weekend we had our friends over to paint and it went pretty quickly and looks great.
This weekend we are having them back again (that's what friends are for, right?) to help us put down the flooring. In order to prep for this we had to get the floor ready. I took a day off yesterday and we put down leveling to make the floor level. The idea is that the leveling is a thin concrete like mixture that will spread to fill in low points and leave a smooth level surface. Gravity does the work.
It didn't work out as well as that. The problem is we could only mix it up one 50 pound bag at a time and that took a while. So while we were mixing the second bucket, the first one was setting up. The same went for the third bucket. As a result, the third bucket left a bit of a lip over the first bucket and so it's not completely smooth like we expected. If we had all three buckets at once, or realistically maybe just two, I think it would have been perfect. So now we are trying to figure out what to do to make sure the floor is level enough for the flooring. Then we can put down the moisture barrier/foam cushioning/noise dampening pad.
I think it will look very nice when we are done, and it will be nice to have this project done. It's gone pretty well, on the whole, but it's been stressful because the house is a mess. That's a consequence of having to put a whole room of stuff into the rest of the house for two weeks. When we put things back it will be much better organized and cleaner so the room will look great.
