In discussing the price of gas on another site I just came up with a though. I don't know if it's a prediction of the future or what, but I'm putting it out there.
Grief counselors at gas stations. They would help ease the blow of paying those $4 to $10 per gallon prices in the coming months and years.
Of course, I don't know if this would be included in the price of gas or if it would be an optional service paid by the customer. It's still in the idea stages.
Well, it's been about two weeks since my panicked post about the Continental 6. Time for an update.
The Regency Stadium 10 Big Screen is undergoing the renovations that have been talked about for a long time. They put up a red "Regency Stadium 10 Big Screen" sign on the top half of the Marquis where it used to say "United Artists" a few days ago. It's ugly, boring and it suuuuucks! Still, it's good news that the Continental isn't going away, just changing again.
Then, yesterday I saw that they are putting a digital marquis up in the place of the old one that was removed, prompting my initial panic. I guess that's a good idea. When you think about it the fact that they have to get up on a lift to change the letters on a marquis 20+ feet in the air every week is a bit archaic.
I'm going to try to get a picture of the new marquis to show how ugly it is. Bonnie could have designed a much better sign.
I miss "this" Bill. I voted for him twice and I think his advice is very good. I know it's helps me decide who I vote for.
Friday night Bonnie and I had a date night. She had three pieces of her design work in a student art show at Arapahoe Community College so we decided to go see it and have dinner afterwards. Well, the show was great, we were so impressed by all the fantastic work, especially the portfolios of the graduating students.
She didn't win any prizes for her work but was still excited to have three items chosen for the show. She's also very excited about learning to do all the cool things the other artists had done in her advanced classes.
After the show we walked over to the Cafe Terracotta in Downtown Littleton. We've never been there but it sounded good so we decided to check it out. Since the weather was so nice we decided to sit out on the front porch. The food was excellent and we really enjoyed ourselves.
You can read more about the show on Bonnie's blog.
You can see about the restaurant at their website. If you're looking for a great dinner it's worth the trip.
Yesterday, while driving home from work I noticed the marquis at the United Artists Continental 6 at Hampden and I-25 was blank. It wasn't just missing letters, they had removed the part of the sign that the letters telling what movies were playing would hang. This seemed very odd since I drive past it twice a day and read the marquis to see what's playing. The last time I remember looking it was Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning. It said they were pre-selling tickets to 'Iron Man' for May 2nd.
I started to worry that they had closed up abruptly as it seems so many businesses are doing these days. Then, driving to work this morning I noticed that the marquis is still empty but worse, the 'United Artists' sign on the building was gone. It's the kind where each letter is an enclosed box with internal lighting. Every business has them. They only thing that's left is a dirty outline where the letters used to be.
This has me really bummed out, not just because I won't be able to go see 'Iron Man' there, but because it's a Denver landmark to me. The Continental is the last of the great big-screen movie theaters in Denver that date back to the '70s. I remember seeing 'Star Wars' there as a child and I saw episodes 1 and 3 there in recent years. Bonnie saw the re-release of the original 'Star Wars' trilogy there when she was in high school.
In the '80s and '90s when all the old, big-screen movie theaters were replaced with smaller-screen multiplex theaters the rest went out. You can read more of the history of the Continental Theater at Cinema Treasures. Now it looks like it may be gone too. I can't find any news about the Continental anywhere so I don't know what's going on for sure.
It's been just over 3 months since my last post about my weight. I haven't been doing nearly as well as I had hoped because I haven't been trying as hard as I should. I was 255 then and I am now about 251. It's not great but it's a move in the right direction. I just couldn't get myself to be serious about my eating until the last few weeks.
I have been doing much better in recent weeks. I am eating less and eating better. I'm not snacking as much and I am getting more exercise. I've been walking for 30 minutes a couple of days a week at work and eating more fruit, less junk. This week I started eating a couple of eggs for breakfast in the place of a bagel with cream cheese. I scramble two eggs with a pinch of cheese and a dash of Tabasco for flavor. I like the mild Jalapeño and the Smoked Chipotle flavors of Tabasco best.
The rest of my day was pretty good food-wise also. I had a banana as a morning snack, some grapes before lunch time, and some edamame as an afternoon snack. I did have a pack of Austin Oreo like cookies as an afternoon snack. Then I had two hot dogs and some fruit for dinner with a glass of milk. Later I had a Skinny Cow ice cream sandwich. Overall I think it was a good day both food and exercise wise. Today I have left over chef salad and fruit for lunch and snacks.
It also helps that I've cut out pop for the most part. I have coffee with vanilla Silk soy milk and Splenda to get my caffeine fix instead of a coke.
Yesterday after work Victor and I went down to the school and practiced passing the soccer ball around for a bit. Then we passed a football around. I got pretty winded at one point from running. I really started to get that lactic acidosis thing and had to take a break. We had some fun and I got a good 1:15 of exercise yesterday. Score!
This is one of those days where I wish life was more like a video game. When things go off the track I'd love to be able to hit reset and go back to my last save point.
I'm very tired this morning, I clearly didn't sleep well. Then, I spilled half my water bottle all over my desk, that's about 16 ounces of water with sugar-free grape drink mix in it. That has left me with random pink and purple spill patterns and spots on my desk. When I was cleaning up I picked up my keyboard and water was running out the corner. I must have gotten an ounce or so in the left side of the keys. It's wireless so I was a bit concerned it might short out. However, it appears to be working fine. As I was putting my desk back together I sloshed my coffee moving it back where it was.
Oh, and I have a bit of a headache coming on.
Sigh...only 6+ hours until I am back home. Wheeeeee!
Well, yesterday was April Fool's and I was shocked to see how many people seem to loathe the day for all it's internet based April foolery. My friends Alan and Doug from the former Daily Gadget were very down on they day. I guess I don't get that. Sure there are some bad attempts at foolery, but there are still some good ones.
The flying penguins video from The Telegraph was very well done and funny. I also liked some Think Geek's jokes, although they were not as funny as previous years. The Spazztroids caffeinated cereal had me going for a minute because I had forgotten what day it was and they have a wide selection of caffeine related products including caffeine laced soap, mints, lotion, etc.
The best one however was very subtle and will stick with me for the long run. I was checking my daily cartoons and when I went to check XKCD.com , a very funny comic to be sure, I got Questionable Content instead. Questionable Content is a well written and entertaining comic. I was immediately drawn in and must now read the entire run of the comic. There are currently over 1100 comics so it's going to take a while. I'm in the 250s right now and really getting into the storyline and characters. It's a bit geeky, a bit naughty, and very funny.
I was impressed that after barely a year of drawing the comic the author Jeph Jacques (I believe it's pronounced Jeff Jacks) was able to become a full-time web comic writer off advertising and selling t-shirts. That's impressive and shows that the world of web comics is doing good. Or, at least it was in 2004 when he did this. I'll see how it goes as I work my way up to current. I'm still over 3 years behind.
So, check out Questionable Content, it's got a permanent spot in RSS reader.
