It's been brought to my attention that I didn't make it clear enough that I had a good time on Saturday. So, to clarify, I had a good time on Saturday. While I may have some issues with Dave & Busters, I did have a good time.
I know I may have noted several things that were not perfect, but I did have a good time. I was trying to keep it somewhat short since I was typing it on my Palm Centro and may have focused to much on the negative.
It was a long overdue and much needed family day out, and I had fun.
Saturday we decided to have a family fun day. Victor and I got hair cuts first thing. Then he had his first soccer practice of the spring season. Finally we spent the afternoon at Dave & Buster's.
We took the light-rail to D&B's so we wouldn't have to park in the horrible parking lot they have. It's just too crampt and the paces are too small.
We got our power cards and hit the games. Some of the games were new but a lot of them are the same as the last time we went. That was several years ago. We also noticed that they had expanded out the back of the arcade with new games, a new bar area, and a bigger prize redemption area.
We also found that some of the games are not very well maintained. at least three of the Skee-Ball games were not working properly and we found a half a dozen games that took our credit then broke or rebooted, or just didn't work.
I got a manager and he gave us 100 credits on each card to make up for it. He tried to apologize for the broken games but really was just making excuses for being understaffed and having aging equipment. I think that they really need a few more people working in a Saturday and need to do a bit of a refresh and repair sweep on the games. We felt that D&B's has slipped down a bit from the level of quality they once had.
Despite the problems we had a good time. Also, dinner was as good a we'd had before even if the service was a bit slow. I hink that this is related to the whole understaffed thing.
On the way home we had a bit of a holdup on the train. The one before ours broke down at the next station and it took about 30 minutes for them to route our car around the Yale station.
Finally, when we got home I got out the Wii and played some Super Mario Galaxy. It took me about 45 minutes to beat Bowser and win the game. I still have 57 stars to get so I'm not really "done" with the game until I get the rest of the stars so I'll be woring on it a bit longer.
UPDATE: I've made a few corrections of typos I made typing this originally on my Palm Centro.
I know it's January 11th and it may be a little late to write my hopes, dreams, etc for the new year, but here goes.
This year I am resolving to make get my act together. It's time to get serious and loose that 50lbs I have been carrying around for too long. It's time to get in shape so I can be healthier and feel better. In the last six months I have really noticed that I just have no energy anymore. I feel so rundown and the littlest bit of exertion can wear me out. I know this isn't going to be easy because I have such bad eating habits and don't get any exercise. I am resolving that 2007 is the year I will change this.
Around the house I am going to be more helpful to to Bonnie with doing the housework and chores she asks me to do. I will finish the projects I start, start the projects I have put off, and whip the house back into shape. This will be particularly critical given that Bonnie is starting classes next week and they are not online courses. She will have two day classes at Arapahoe Community College so she will be out of the house a few hours a day at class and also will have homework to do. My contribution to her educational progress is to help with the house all that I can.
I am also going to get my finances in order this year. We went a little crazy at Christmas and my spending habits are not good. I am going to rein in my spending and pay down some debt this year. Again, this won't be easy, but I really need to do this.
Online I am going to post more regularly on my Blog and write more frequent pieces for the Daily Gadget. I have been slacking off over at DG and need to start contributing more original content to the site. I have also started my picture-a-day project on January first. I will post the first batch tonight. I was inspired by a post on Lifehacker last October. They called it Project 365 and it looked like a great idea to me. It will also help me to keep regular posts to my blog as I will post the photos here.
Well, 2006 was quite a year. So many thing have happened that I figured I'd look back at a list of them.
Victor
- Showed great improvement with his soccer skills
- Mastered riding a bike
- Transitioned from 3rd to 4th grade
- Turned 10
- Went back to college
- Passed her first two classes with grades over 95%
- Got a Mac
- Made another great Christmas card for us, and even made custom cards for her mother
- Turned 33
- Started riding the bus most days to work after my office moved downtown. This resulted in us going back to a one car family.
- Finished several books I had been reading for year or more
- Shoveled a lot of snow
- Turned 35
Bonnie and I celebrated 13 years of marriage and look forward to many more.
We had a friend and her daughter stay with us for 8 months while she got back on her feet. She is now out on her own again and doing well with a good job.
We discovered water damage to the carpet in our family room and decided to use is an opportunity to re-carpet most of the house. While this isn't a great thing to have happened, Bonnie never liked the carpet and is excited to have the new carpet put in next week.
I have high hopes for the next year and look forward to all the promise that it holds.
Happy New Year
