Thanksgiving? Well, we got a few inches of snow overnight into this morning. It's not enough to get excited about but it's enough to mess up holiday travel on one of the busiest travel days of the year.
My commute to work was a bit slower this morning, but not much. Still, it's nice to see the snow since we have been so dry this month.
Well, the weather yesterday was fantastic and today is even better. Yesterday's high was about 50, today's will be near 60. Then back to the 40s for Wednesday and Thursday. I will slip back down into the upper 30s on Friday and Saturday with a small chance of snow possible.
Combined with all the sun we had last week our street is finally thawing out. By the end of the week we could finally be free of the Campion Way glacier.
It so nice today I actually wore a short sleeved shirt and a hooded sweatshirt rather than a sweater and heavy coat with scarf.
Ahh, it's so nice to have a break from the unrelenting cold and snow.
January 31, 2007 - This is the view from my bus stop Wednesday afternoon on the way home. See how much the snow and ice have melted? If only we could have another week of this weather it would melt the rest and we would be golden.
February 1, 2007 - Today, well, so much for that wish for better weather. More snow today, by the time I got here, Bonnie's class at ACC, we had a full on snow storm. Another few inches to be done by morning. Then back to trying to melt off all this snow.
For those of you keeping score, this the SEVENTH consecutive week it has snowed. I can't remember this ever happening in the nearly thirty years I have lived here. It's just insane. Typically it snows, the sun comes out, the snow melts. Two days later all is dry and clear. This winter we still have snow left over from the Christmas blizzard
Well, I haven't been posting much here besides the Picture-A-Day. I am getting pretty good about doing them every few days at most. It really looses it's "A-Day"-ness when it's only every few days to a week.
I haven't posted much about the weather because, well, it's been anticlimactic lately. It snowed last weekend, but only about an inch of the powdery, fluff snow. Hardly worth a mention. Besides that we have had a week of sunny days that have really melted things good. It is supposed to snow again tomorrow, maybe a few inches. If it does it might take another day to melt it. Still, at the rate we are going, by next weekend our street could actually be drivable for the first time since Christmas.
January 26,2007 - Yes, another train. This is a westbound engine I happened to see on the way to my car after work Friday. The train tracks are on the other side of the fence on the north side of our parking lot.
January 27,2007 - Bonnie made this delicious tub of chocolate dipped pretzels. She melted down some Ghiaradelli semi-sweet chocolate chips. They were very well received at the Bunko party we took them to Saturday night.
January 28,2007 - Victor went sledding today. He spent an hour in the morning and about an hour in the afternoon. In the morning he was sledding in our neighbor's front yard because they have a bit of a bobsled track built into the snow. In the afternoon I took him to the retention pond by Main St and Motsenbacher where there is a lot of great sledding. Victor had a great time and got soaked in the snow.
January 18, 2007 - This is Skittles contemplating something on the wall. He is so dumb. ;-)
January 19, 2007 - Ok, here's where the "sort of" comes in. I actually forgot to take a picture today.
January 20, 2007 - Tonight we had blueberry-lemon waffles from our Couisinart Belgian Waffle maker. Oh, they are so good.
January 21, 2007 - Her is another bit of snow. We got 8-9 inches for the weekend. We are close to 6 feet of snow this season. Oy Vey!!
January 22, 2007 - Here is my latest sleep aid. I know, it sounds odd, but this round door knob keeps the cat from trying our lever-type door knobs in the middle of the knight because the dumbass is bored or lonely. We have slept well since I installed it.
January 23, 2007 - Here is the Arapahoe Community College Design Center where Bonnie is taking her classes in web design. I meet her here after work on Tuesdays and Thursdays when she has her late class. Then I drive home in the dusk/dark on the highway. That works for her because she hates driving on the highway, and in the dark.
January 24, 2007 - This is the view from University of Denver light rail station. The tower is the Richie Center. I have been wanting to take this picture for a week but I haven't had a wait at the DU station until today.
January 13, 2007 - I gassed up the Civic this morning. It was freezing cold so I figure the gas was very dense, thus the maximum for my bucks. It was only $2.239, the lowest I have seen in a month for the mid-grade. Then two days later it dropped 2c a gallon. Whatever.....
January 14, 2007 - Here's Salem hiding under the end table in the living room. He just got busted doing something he shouldn't and thinks this is a pretty good place to hide.
January 15, 2007 - Our first blizzard was December 21st and we STILL can't see our street. Of course, this area just past the sidewalk was clear before the city came by and helped clear the street.
January 17, 2007 - Here is Bonnie's iMac. I thought I would take a picture since I don't know when the next time I will see it is once she starts doing her schoolwork on it.
January 17, 2007 - Today my light rail train was a bit confused. 18th & Cal was displayed all the way to the Lincoln station. The train was heading south, but it thought it was going north.
Well, as cold as it was yesterday, it's just going to keep getting colder today, and tomorrow and maybe the day after..... That's right, we are in the grips of an arctic cold snap.
Here's the latest forecast:
You can see the outlook is colder than yesterday's. On the bright side the outlook for snow has dropped. We got maybe an inch of powder this by the time I left the house this morning. Pretty insignificant. As much as I like snow I am looking forward to melting the several-inch-thick layer of bumpy ice on my street.I can say it was DAMN cold this morning waiting for the bus. I will need to bundle up more if it's going to be like this again. It really isn't safe to be outside in this weather, you're likely to be frozen in an hour.
Well, the last snow storm was about six inches and now, we are looking at another six inches this weekend. Oh, but for a twist, this time our temps are going to drop into the teens, not the twenties like the last three storms. The forecast is looking very cold right now.
I can't tell you how much I am not looking forward to waiting for the bus in 0 degree weather.
It's really too bad, another week without snow and some decent temps and we might have been able to melt most of the snow we got before Christmas. Oh well, at least it's just expected to be a few inches.
For what it's worth, we are really loosing our reputation for snow that's here today, gone tomorrow.
