Last week it was raining like mad and even turned into snow. Over the weekend it was beautiful that I got a sunburn. Nothing like mixing it up.
Today was so nice I didn't even wear a sweatshirt on the morning commute. I was just warm enough at 5:50am to walk out the door in a button-up short-sleeve shirt and jeans. It felt cool, but not cold on the way in.
It's spring and I am really liking it. The sweet smell of the flowers in the trees, the warm sunny weather and the generally "green" feeling of spring. I love Colorado because of the changing of seasons. It's what I missed living in Hawaii. However, after the serious dose of winter we had between Christmas and Valentine's Day I really am loving this spring thing.
It's raining this morning, I mean REALLY raining. It's coming down pretty heavy. I was really dreading coming in this morning. In the year since I started taking the bus to work this is the first time I have had to commute in a downpour. Because Bonnie is in school I really don't have the option to drive. It would have been so easy to just go back to bed. But I didn't.
I dug out my USMC issue trench coat. It really doesn't fit well since I have put on about 80lbs since it was issued. Still it did a pretty good job of keeping me dry. I couldn't find my golf umbrella so I had to use a smaller compact type umbrella.
If this keeps up all day I may need a boat to get home.
Well, today I learned my lesson on not watching the local news often enough. I haven't watched the news in about a week. With the weather being all nice and spring-like in the 50s, 60s and even edging into the 70s I just put on a polo shirt and my hooded sweatshirt and walked out the door. Bad idea.
For starters it was not the 40+ degrees it was yesterday, not it was 30. Then after being very chilly on the way to work I heard that it was raining. Luckily this didn't start until after I got into work so I am dry. But, of course, I don't have an umbrella because I wasn't expecting it to rain and was still in "snow" gear mode.
So, I will make sure to check the weather more regularly. I can at least check the weather widget on the iMac if I can't watch the news.
Well, the weather yesterday was fantastic and today is even better. Yesterday's high was about 50, today's will be near 60. Then back to the 40s for Wednesday and Thursday. I will slip back down into the upper 30s on Friday and Saturday with a small chance of snow possible.
Combined with all the sun we had last week our street is finally thawing out. By the end of the week we could finally be free of the Campion Way glacier.
It so nice today I actually wore a short sleeved shirt and a hooded sweatshirt rather than a sweater and heavy coat with scarf.
Ahh, it's so nice to have a break from the unrelenting cold and snow.
January 31, 2007 - This is the view from my bus stop Wednesday afternoon on the way home. See how much the snow and ice have melted? If only we could have another week of this weather it would melt the rest and we would be golden.
February 1, 2007 - Today, well, so much for that wish for better weather. More snow today, by the time I got here, Bonnie's class at ACC, we had a full on snow storm. Another few inches to be done by morning. Then back to trying to melt off all this snow.
For those of you keeping score, this the SEVENTH consecutive week it has snowed. I can't remember this ever happening in the nearly thirty years I have lived here. It's just insane. Typically it snows, the sun comes out, the snow melts. Two days later all is dry and clear. This winter we still have snow left over from the Christmas blizzard
Well, I haven't been posting much here besides the Picture-A-Day. I am getting pretty good about doing them every few days at most. It really looses it's "A-Day"-ness when it's only every few days to a week.
I haven't posted much about the weather because, well, it's been anticlimactic lately. It snowed last weekend, but only about an inch of the powdery, fluff snow. Hardly worth a mention. Besides that we have had a week of sunny days that have really melted things good. It is supposed to snow again tomorrow, maybe a few inches. If it does it might take another day to melt it. Still, at the rate we are going, by next weekend our street could actually be drivable for the first time since Christmas.
Well, as cold as it was yesterday, it's just going to keep getting colder today, and tomorrow and maybe the day after..... That's right, we are in the grips of an arctic cold snap.
Here's the latest forecast:
You can see the outlook is colder than yesterday's. On the bright side the outlook for snow has dropped. We got maybe an inch of powder this by the time I left the house this morning. Pretty insignificant. As much as I like snow I am looking forward to melting the several-inch-thick layer of bumpy ice on my street.I can say it was DAMN cold this morning waiting for the bus. I will need to bundle up more if it's going to be like this again. It really isn't safe to be outside in this weather, you're likely to be frozen in an hour.
Well, the last snow storm was about six inches and now, we are looking at another six inches this weekend. Oh, but for a twist, this time our temps are going to drop into the teens, not the twenties like the last three storms. The forecast is looking very cold right now.
I can't tell you how much I am not looking forward to waiting for the bus in 0 degree weather.
It's really too bad, another week without snow and some decent temps and we might have been able to melt most of the snow we got before Christmas. Oh well, at least it's just expected to be a few inches.
For what it's worth, we are really loosing our reputation for snow that's here today, gone tomorrow.
Today it started snowing about noon, and by the time I got home we had two inches of fresh snow. Bonnie was out shoveling the drive when I got home and surprisingly the street was not a bumpy mess. Bonnie said a road grater had come by earlier to scrape the street clean.
Then, while I was helping her scrape off the driveway, a big scoop loader started down our street, digging out the large piles of snow blocking half the street. It's nice of them to show up to clear last week's blizzard before this one gets too busy. I guess this improves my odds of getting out tomorrow to go to work, if they don't close my office.
I guess we will just have to wait and see if the next foot makes it in tonight like they expected.
Bonnie and I spent about an hour and a half digging out the driveway and getting the car back in the garage.
The first photo is where the car was, the second is where it is now. Yeah!!!!
It only took the two of us, two snow shovels, a trenching shovel and a 2'x3' sheet of plywood. The big problem was getting the driver's side wheel back up on the curb. But, now that we are in, it's good.
Not that this means I have ANY chance of getting out anytime soon. Nope, I still have 2 to 3 feet of snow between the driveway and 18 inch ruts on the road. I really don't see myself getting out until tomorrow.
Of course, while we were doing this Victor was doing what 10-year-olds do in this situation. He was sledding in the deep snow in the front yard and having a great time. He really does love playing in the snow. He doesn't even know he is cold. When he takes his shoes and gloves off you see his socks are soaked and both his hands and feet are pink from the cold. Kids.....
